These (infrared) images evoke events occurring at the translucent - vibrational levels of nature as crystallized energy.

During the late 1960’s, Lawrence was introduced to the spiritual and mind-altering practices of meditation, yoga and psychedelics. His interest in infrared film was piqued when he saw that it could capture light frequencies that were outside the visible spectrum, yet could still be experienced as heat. With the addition of color, crystalizing and polarizing filters, the analog effects produced became truly psychedelic and mesmerizing. Lawrence was greatly intrigued by this phenomenon, as it gave him a unique perspective on the world that he had not previously experienced. He was inspired to explore its possibilities further and eventually began creating his own unique works of art with it.
In addition to the film, Lawrence layered color and crystal filters on the lens to suit the scene itself. They were utilized to reflect Lawrence’s attunement, giving the images his psychedelic signature. By looking through the filters, Lawrence’s understanding was sharpened, placing him deeper into the process of bridging the world of infrared to analog reality.
